Therapist Biography - Daniel DesLauriers
Daniel DesLauriers - practicing in Toronto, Mississauga, GTA, Canada
We've asked some of our therapists to tell you a little bit about themselves, their background before they trained with the IAPH, and their experience of the IAPH and its training.
Your main town(s)/cities(s) that you practice in:
Toronto, Mississauga, GTA, Canada
What was your background before you trained to be a Pure Hypnoanalyst?:
Prior to my entry into all things hypnotherapy I was involved in the sales, marketing and education of nutritional products and alternative medicine.
What made you choose a career in Pure Hypnoanalysis?:
My interest in hypnotherapy/psychology came about as a result of being diagnosed with a life-long critical illness at a young age and the role the mind played and continues to play in overcoming it. My choice in career as a Pure Hypnoanalyst came as a result of frustration with the levels of education I received from other hypnotherapy organizations. I was looking for a school that provided more insight into the psychological aspects of hypnotherapy and that wasn't purely focused on suggestion.
What age were you when you trained with the IAPH?:
30
Had you ever studied hypnotherapy / psychology / counseling etc before training with the IAPH?:
Yes
If you had studied hypnotherapy / psychology / counseling etc before, how did our training and support compare to the others?:
There is no comparison really. I trained with the largest organization of hypnotherapists in North America and after about 12 days of mediocre training you were given a diploma. The focus of the training was on suggestion therapy, something that I have never really been too keen about in the first place. My interest in hypnotherapy came from reading the works of Milton Erickson who used hypnotherapy in a more holistic manner, bringing things out in people rather than putting things in. There is no empowerment for your client when you have done something 'to' them instead of helping someone achieve something on their own. Needless to say I did not feel comfortable in establishing a private practice with my previous training.
The training and education supplied by the IAPH on the other hand, is in my personal opinion, second to none. You are given the whole picture here, not just a couple of techniques and left alone in the wilderness with no support. The support begins the moment you sign up for the course and continues for the length of your career.
What made you choose the IAPH Successful Hypnotherapy Diploma Course, as opposed to any of the others available?
I must have visited nearly every website out there looking for a school that matched what I was looking for. When I stumbled on to the Successful Hypnotherapy website I knew almost immediately that I had found what I was looking for. The training was laid out clearly and it was apparent that the focus wasn't entirely about suggestion therapy. The focus of helping clients bring something out of themselves, liberating themselves from their personal psychological enslavement, was very intriguing and right up my alley for what I was looking for.
How did you find the combination of home-study, and hands-on training seminars and workshops?
I enjoyed the home-study portion for the fact that I could study at my own pace, on my own time. Anytime I had a question I could log on to the student forum to get an answer. The hands on training seminars and workshops are not only incredibly educational, engaging and fun, they are a great opportunity to meet your fellow students and members.
Did you receive enough support and mentoring throughout your studies, or could you have done with more?
There has never been a lack of support or mentoring in my studies, if there was, it was because I didn't ask for help.
Did you find it easy to use the online support forum, both for your questions/answers, and downloading the free video and audio lectures?
Yes, this incredible resource is very easy to use and if you are not very computer literate then there is always someone willing to help you out.
After passing the course, did you feel that you were adequately prepared for your own private practice, or did you need any extra help or support?
I definitely felt adequately prepared, but there are always questions and concerns that arise throughout your career. This is why having a support structure like the on that is in place is so important, you always have a more experienced member to bounce those questions and concerns off of.
How easy (or difficult) was it setting up your own hypnotherapy clinic, and starting to treat your own clients?
Setting up for the first time was quite easy for me. There really isn't that much to it, find a nice room, make it look good, get a few supplies and you're off.
Now you are in practice full-time, what is life like as a busy hypnotherapist?
Life is great, each day you are helping others achieve personal freedom in their lives. Not to mention how your own life is transformed by taking this course and going through this incredible therapy yourself. My life and the lives of many many others are being made made better by belonging to this organization, what more could you ask for really!
